Nancy,
My great-grandmother was Jane Garfield. She married my great-grandfather, Thomas Sears. The information that I have was that she was born October 8, 1835 and died January 21, 1921.
They are buried in the Peasleeville Cemetery. My grandfather, Heman Sears, was one of their children. Their other children were Tom Sears, Charlie Sears, Wallace Sears, Minnie Sears LaMay, Jennie Sears Morrow, Frank Sears and Nancy Sears Ormsby.
Their graves are marked by metal plates rather than headstones. No dates are on the markers.
Carolyn Riley was married to Lorin "Mike" Riley. Mike's mother, Martha Sears Riley and my father Nathan Orville Sears are brother and sister. (Both have passed away.)
According to my Dad, Jane was a distant cousin of President Garfield. Have you been told the same information by your Garfield relatives?
