St. Charles (Illinois) Chronicle, 26 April 1917 Frances Wing Garfield died (missing) 9th at 4 p.m. from apoplexy. She had been stricken in the morning after dressing and entering upon her daily duties. Mrs. Garfield was born in Clarendon, Vt., January (missing)st, 1835, and was the daughter of Seneca and Jane Ewing Wing. Dr. Wing removed to the state of New York and located at Hague on the banks of Lake George. Here his wife died and Dr. Wing removed to Batavia, Ills., in 1848. His daughter, Frances Harriet, was left in Vermont with her maternal grandfather, where she gained her education and began life as a teacher in the rural districts. In March 1856 she came west to Batavia to look after her property interests, her father having died in that place. Here she met Edward E. Garfield with whom she was united in marriage Oct. 7, 1857, after having taught school in the Whitney district known as White Schoolhouse, a term, one at Kaneville and one at the Peck district. In this way she early gained a large number of friends and acquaintances and had a keen interest in the growth and development of the county. Of Scotch-Irish and English descent, she possessed many of their sturdy characteristics. In religion the Wings had been quakers since 1632 when they first landed on American soil at Sandwich, Mass. though the past three generations had dropped the speech and dress, Mrs. Garfield felt unable to think of joining another church society as had her father before her, until late in life, uniting with the Un itarian church in Geneva. (Much of next paragraph is missing), later the "Children's Home Finding Association of he State, and many kindred benevolences, though all was done so quietly that only the recipients knew of the deeds. She had been an active member of the Wasco Mother's Club and the Eureka Domestic Science Club of LaFox, having attended both within a week previous to her death. The funeral services were held at the home in Campton Sunday afternoon. She was laid to rest in the Garfield cemetery. Her son, Earle W. Garfield, and wife, their son, Everett E., and daughter, Frances W., and Mrs. Garfield's daughter, mary F. G. Forster, and husband and one aged brother, Hobart M. Wing of Eugene, Ore., are he only immediate relatives surviving, her husband, Edward E. Garfield, having died August 4th, 1896 and her oldest son, Edward E., in 1863. Many nieces, nephews and their children are left to mourn the loss they have sustained in her death. --------- I am not related to nor researching this family and have no further information.
