Susan, there were Garey's in Talbot Co, Maryland (Easton) as far back as 1660, among the Quakers who settled that out-of-the-way area to avoid persecution by Puritans and others.By the late 1700's they were mostly Episcopalians. There are a number of Garey wills and marriages in the late 1600's and 1700's in various records in Talbot County. There are Garey's in the 1790, 1800, 1810, and 1820 census in Talbot Co. Brothers John Y and Samuel Y Garey left Talbot for Florida shortly after we bought it from Spain in 1819.They were bankers.John Y went to St Augustine and married a Spanish lady, then to Tallahassee. His son John E Garey moved to Texas and is buried in Houston. His grandaughter was my grandfather's first wife, and their daughter is my aunt. Those same early censuses show Garey's in a few other Maryland counties also. You may want to visit Easton and see what's what with the Garey records there.Good luck and let me know if you find something interesting.I have not yet established which Garey's are the parents of John Y and Samuel Y Garey.
