I have copies of the pension papers for my 4th great grandfather, Benjamin Gardner from the War of 1812.On his declaration for pension, he lists his wife as Pheobe Ann Hoag and it goes on to say that they were married in Troy,
NY November 1814.Pheobe/Phebe/Phoebe is buried in Roseland Cemetery in Pulaski Co IN.
Yes, he did move around a lot.
I have never been successful finding his final resting place. He did pass away in Muskegon IL, but I talked with a researcher there many years ago who said there were only 4 cemeteries there at the time (1882) and that he is not buried in any of them. She went on to guess that he may have been railed back to IN since there is a railroad close by in Muskegon.I know that his son Ben Gardner Jr & wife Jane are buried in Little Eagle Cemetery in Westfield (Marion Co) IN and that there is an unmarked tombstone next to theirs.Could that be Ben Sr?I've never been to the cemetery and don't know how to reach the caretaker or anyone who might have burial records. It's a possibility.
I agree with your Jacob Gardner tradition. And yes, Benjamin's death record does name Jacob and Hulde as his parents.
