David Gardner (1832-1923) of Eau Claire County, Wisconsin
Hi,
I'm wondering if anyone else is researching David Gardner and family of Eau Claire County, Wisconsin? After decades of having only his name, wife's name, and daughter's name and date of death, I have finally found his grave on the Find-A-Grave site. I have been able to find a minimal amount of information since then.
His date of birth is 4 Aug 1832 and he was born in New York. His date of death is 17 March 1923, and he is buried in Lake Mills, Jefferson County, Wisconsin. He married Phoebe A. DeMerit, who was born 8 Oct 1838 in Illinois. (Her DeMerit family has been traced all the way back to the Channel Islands.) She died 23 March 1916, and is buried in Lake Mills, Jefferson County, Wisconsin.
According to tombstones in the Rock Lake Cemetery, Lake Mills, Wisconsin, and the Federal Census for 1900 and 1910, they had children: Milo O. Gardner, b about 1866 in Wisconsin and d 1922; Ella Mae Gardner (my great grandmother), b. 1874 and died 17 Oct 1920 in Portland, Multnomah, Oregon. The Wisconsin State census for 1905 also shows a Mary Gardner in the family, b. about 1884 (mother Phoebe would have been 46 when she was born). I see some tombstones in the same cemetery for other male Gardners of an appropriate age to be David's brothers, but no way to know if they were.
It appears that the family lived in Altoona, and Augusta, Eau Claire County, Wisconsin, and possibly other nearby towns for most of their lives.
I would love to make contact with others who are researching this family. Any additional information on them is always welcome!
