The 1851 census for Alfred, Prescott County, Ontario, Canada (URL above) shows a Gardener family that interests me, but I have never been able to track one single member beyond that particular census.I wonder if anyone has any ideas.
Note that the names appear more English than French, considering they are supposed to be French-speaking from Canada East.
In 1851:
Father:FRANCOIS (FRANCIS/FRANK), Age 38, b. est. 1813, says he and his entire family were born in Canada East (French-speaking), prob. Quebec. They indicate they are Roman Catholic.
Mother:MARY, b. est. 1815
Daughter: ELMIRA, Age 16, b. est. 1835
Son:FRANCOIS (Francis/Frank), Age 11, b. est. 1840
Daughter: JULIANN, Age 10, b. est. 1841
Son:MOSES, Age 8 b. est. 1843
Daughter:PHOEBE, Age 6, b. est. 1845
Daughter:(Name unclear) DELIA?, Age 4, b. est. 1847
Son:JOSEPH, Age 2, b. est. 1849
Daughter: PHILLIS, Age 1, b. est. 1850
They live fairly close to a HENDERSON family (David and Maria and their children) in Alfred, which is the family I am researching.Maria's maiden name was said to be Gardner on one of her daughters' marriage certificates, and I have tried for years to find these Gardners, above, to see if there is any relationship to Maria Gardner Henderson.
Any and all suggestions/help will be greatly appreciated.
