Gardner-Avery Wedding
One of the Brightest and Prettiest Matrimonial Events of the Year - Delicious Wedding Dinner at the Ross.

Among the various weddings that have brightened the past year none have been more auspicious or of more general interest than that celebrated Thursday noon of last week at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. J.K Gardner, on Mill Street – the marriage of their daughter, Ella May and Mr. Edward Dewaine Avery, son of Mr. and Mrs. C.L Avery, of this place. A company of a half hundred guests, comprising leading families and members of society, were witnesses of the charming event.

The interior of the house was decorated with taste and pleasing effect and the decorations at the Ross house dining room, where the wedding dinner was served, were equal, if not superior, to any that have yet beautified that well-conducted hostelry.

At the appointed time, noon, the young couple plighted their troth and were united in marriage in the parlor of the young lady’s home by the Rev. J.S Upton of the First Congregational church. The entrance of the wedding party to the parlor was timed by the melody of the piano rendered by Miss Jessie Swift. First came Misses Zora and Zelma Rickard, little twin daughters of Mrs. Anna Rickard of Hallton. They were followed by Miss Nettie Ittle, of Ridgway as bridesmaid, and Mr. Arthur Chaffee of Camptown as best man. The latter was a cousin of the groom. The proverbial loveliness of brides was attractively illustrated in Miss Gardner. Her gown was of blue broadcloth on traveling costume and she carried white roses. Miss Ittle was attired in a becoming gown of brown covert and the flowers she carried were white carnations.

After the assembled guests had extended their greetings and bestowed blessings upon the happy couple, all adjourned to the Ross House dining room, where a most delicious wedding dinner was served.

The menu was as follows:
AVERY-GARDNER.
Dinner.
Count Oysters.
Bouillon, en cup.
Celery.
Boiled Salmon Trout, sauce Hollandaise.
Potatoes Parisienne.
Olives.
Fillet of Beef, Larded, Bordelaise.
Creamed Potatoes. Asparagus.
Green Peas.
Broiled Spring Chicken, En crust.
Sweet Bread Croquets, Mushrooms.
Roman Punch.
Lobsters, Mayonnaise.
Vanilla Ice Cream.
Cakes. Fruits.
Bent’s Crackers. Cheese.
Tea. Coffee.

After partaking of the above dinner, which was, in its delicacy and excellent manner of its service, a triumph of the caterer’s art, the guests bade the newly married couple farewell and they departed on the 2:26 train over the P. & E. R.R for a wedding trip of about two weeks to points of especial interest in the Empire State.

On this occasion the bride was richly remembered with wedding gifts from friends both far and near. The collection of these tokens was remarkable both in its completeness and in its variety.

The youthful bride is an accomplished and capable lady, qualified by education and aptitude for an influential place in either the social or domestic circle. Her unassuming manner and brightness of spirit have woven for her a chain of friendships in the younger society. The groom, who is prominent cigar manufacturer of this borough, is a young man of sterling principle and decided business application and ability.

Guests attending the wedding from out of town were: Mr. and Mrs. Kenedy, Lewistown; Arthur Chafee, Camptown; Miss Camp, Big Run; Mr. and Mrs. F.A Fitch, Clarington; Mrs. Bird, Wilcox; Mrs. Anna Rickard, Hallton; Mrs. Chafee, Camptown; Mrs. O.B. Fitch. Those who were in attendance from Ridgway were: Miss Jessie Swift, Miss Nettie Ittle, Miss Mina VanAken, Miss Sara Swift, Mr. A.D. Swift, Miss Emma Brigger, Miss Margaret Ames, Miss Zora Knopsnyder, Miss Florence Holiday, Mr. C.W Avery, Miss Lizzie Powell, Miss Eunice Benedict, Mr. Albert Avery, Mr. and Mrs. W. H Osterhout, Mr. W.H. Hyde, Mr. and Mrs. C.H. Grenols, Mr. and Mrs. S. A. Weaver.
