Hi Betty:
I believe we may be related. My mother's maiden name was Gardner and her family originally owned the Gardner property of about 400 acres where Crane Creek crosses over the land on the Faith Road in Rowan County, NC,where I lived. My father was Donald Thomas Byrd and there is a road going to Granite Quarry, NC right in front of the house where I was raised that is named after the Byrd family... Byrd Road.
My great-grandmother Byrd's maiden name was Jane Amanda Gardner... and she married George Monroe Byrd.We think the Byrd property was originally Jane Amanda's and when she married... the land eventually became Byrd property.
Child of Erwin Byrd & Elizabeth Brown Byrd:
George Monroe Byrd b-12/10/1845 dd-4/15/1903 (b) St. Paul's Lutheran, Faith, NC (M) 4/6/1872 to Jane Amanda Gardner b- 4/17/1845 dd-7/24/1923 buried Shilo Reformed Church of Faith, Faith, NC
Jane Amanda's father was Samuel Gardner.
So, my family's property is a part of the original John Gardner property. Jane Amanda was the one who ended up with the property and when she married my great-grandfather George Monroe Byrd, I think she passed the land on to their kids.
I am trying to find out who my great-great-great grandfather Gardner is.I believe that my great-great grandfather, John William (Willie) Gardner, died in 1864.
My great-great grandfather on the Gardner side was John William (Willie) Gardner who married Jane Isabella Fesperman. He died not long after they were married... but fathered a son... John William Henry Gardner (my great-grandfather).Jane Isabella Fesperman Gardner remarried... to John David Alexander Fisher.
My great grandfather, John William married Mary Anna Belle Kirk. My grandfather, CT Gardner, was about 17 years old when the portrait was made.John William's wife, Mary Anna Belle Kirk Gardner, died when she was only about 36 years old. After having about 11-12 kids... I guess she just gave out. They had a lot of kids who either died at childbirth or shortly thereafter. I have all of this documented already. In fact, most of them are buried in the Faith church cemetery where my grandfather, grandmother, my mom and her siblings are also buried.
My grandfather, Clifton Marcellus Truesdale Gardner, operated Gardner Granite Works in Faith, NC.His brother, John Henry Alston Gardner, operated the business with him. My grandfather also donated the granite with which to build a new Shiloh Reformed Church in Faith, NC. My other grandfather, Thomas Mortimer Byrd, was great friends with my other grandfather, CT Gardner.Thomas M. Byrd also had a granite business and together they donated all of the granite to build that church.
Thanks so much.I look forward to hearing from you.
