William H Gardner Prominent in Many Industrial Corporations Dead
He was one of the Incorporators and Directors of the Pierce-Arrow Company.
After an illness of several months, William H Gardner, 74 years old, died yesterday afternoon at his home, No 255 North Street.He lived here for more than 60 years and was prominently connected with a number of industries.He was a director of the Pierce-Arrow Motor Car company.The funeral will probably be held tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the family home, the Rev. A.V. Raymond , Pastor of the First Presbyterian church , of which Mr Gardner was a member, officiating.
Mr Gardner is survived by one daughter, Mrs William A Stowell of Amherst, Mass., and two sons, William A,and Laurence H Gardner.Mr Garnder's wife died about ten years ago.
Mr Gardner was born in this city on November 20, 1941.He was educated in the grammar schools here and at the Central high school.After leaving high school he entered business and was very successful. He lived continuously in Buffalo until 1877 when he went to Saint Louis and became the general manager and vice president of the Missouri Car & Foundry company.After remaining there for ten years he came back to his native city and was the general manager and vice presidentof the Buffalo Car Manufacturing company.When this company was absorbed by the American Car & Foundry he gave up his interestin it.
Mr Gardner was one of the incorporators of the George N. Pierce company.When this company was merged with the Pierce-Arrow Motor Car company he became a director of the latter company.
Mr Gardner was a Republican and a stanch supporter of the party.On account of Mr Gardner's death,invitations have been recalled for the ball which was to have been given by Mrs Laurence H Gardner on December 27th.
