Hi Ida,
Actually my ancestry would be as follows:
Cyrus Gardner/Melinda Carter
Eunice Gardner/Ichabod Howard
Olive Howard/John Smith Ranger who were my gg grandparents
Basically I like to trace ancestry to first generation immigrants to America, which I believe I have done so with the Gardner family in my ancestry which leads to John and Mary Gardner who married in Boston in 1651 and, as I understand it, he migrated to Hingham, MA about 1650 from England.
By the way, I understand about the inconsistencies of where Cyrus was from, and believe me, it seems I looked for all possibilities from all those directions which all came to dead ends.
Here is some more info about Cyrus:
1850 US Census in Plantation 4, Franklin County, Maine shows: Cyrus (41); Merinda (42); Levi (19); Sumner W (17); Sally (16); Eunice (12); Melinda (4) and Olive (2). Cyrus has a farm $150. He and his wife were both born in NH. all children born in ME.
1860 US Census in Plantation 4, Franklin County, Maine shows: Cyrus Gardner (61). Farmer on $400 farm with $300 in personal assets. Born in New Sharon, New Hampshire. He is head of household with wife Melinda Gardner (50) and son is Lewis (25); Melinda A (15); Olive A (12). Census says Melinda was born in Landaff, NH and that Lewis was born in "Dorill" (cant make out the spelling), Maine and that Melinda and Olive were both born at Plantation 4.
1870 US Census showed Cyrus Gardner (62) and Malinda (62) with Olive Howard (12) living in Washington Plantation, Franklin County, Maine (formerly Plantation #4). Olive Howard was born in Wilton. Malinda born in Bowe, NH. Cyrus says New Salem, Mass. is where he was born. The Farm he farms is $300 and personal asssets are $270.
Cyrus is buried in the Intervale Cemetery in Wilton, Maine (or at least, this is presumed to be the case) as a stone with his name on it is next to Belinda, his wife who d. 9/17/1875 age 66y6m. Next to his gravestone is Levi Gardner 4/15/1831 - 7/30/1908 and Sumner W Gardner 2/28/1833 - 7/8/1863 (flag)
IF you happen to have the ancestry of the wife of Cyrus, I'd be interested.
I have it as Jonathan P Carter (1783-1877) and Eunice Flanders (1786-1856) and that the parents of Jonathan were John Carter (1760-1848) and Lucy Cavis (1761-), but I am not 100% on this. Parents, as I understand it, of John Carter were Daniel Carter (1719-1800) and Hannah Fowler (1722-1802) of Salilsbury, MA and remove to Concord, NH
Do you have any info on the Carter family?
MR
