Kristine, Thanks for your answer to this query! Yes, I am always interested in anything regarding a possible link to Thomas Gardner's and Rowland Gardner's family. Family tradition indicates that this line is somehow connected to Abby Gardner, however over the past few years I have found nothing to indicate this through the Gardner line. I am speculating that the possible "relationship" between Abby's family and that of Thomas Stanton Gardner and wife Edna Amelia Clark or his first wife Lavinia Wellman, comes from another source, perhaps the Clarks'. More recently people on this board have found much on Thomas's family in NY and I was able to visit the area and view the cemeteries. I found no connection to that area for Abby, though I think her roots had come from Maine? I recently found an old article in a newspaper from the early 1900's about her and the massacre and have placed it for sale on ebay, hoping to reach some relative who might know of a connection. Thomas Gardner and his family were early settlers in IA, and I think he was there about the same as Rowland, Abby's father. Rowland went further west to Spirit Lake. Unless those reports and the few bits of information I have about Rowland are wrong (which does not seem very likley) I am still stumped. One of my ancestor's from that area , Rosella Young married to Weston Fremont Fremont Burt who's mother was a Lucy C. Thatcher. To date, I have found no information to connect the Burts or this particular Thatcher with Rowland either. A mystery waiting to be solved! Please feel free to write me at my home email regarding this if you can add any further clues. Thanks again for your response. Sincerely, [email protected]
