I just spoke by phone with Jerry Gardiner, who is the person I'm looking for. We are in the process of exchanging information. Among other things, he remembers letters from the Australia cohort, and has a photo of John Everard Gardiner. Thanks for your help in locating him. I'll keep you posted.
