Jim: I think I'm just taking a shot in the dark, but I'm replying because you said Gardener isn't a popular name in Ireland.

My great grandmother (Jan. 1899-May 1999)was Annie Emma Catherine Gardener. The only information I have is that her father was Jesse Gardener from Ireland and her mother was Elizabeth Brooks from England. Annie herself was born in England.

From what I understand Jesse died in the Irish Rebellion (trying to earn $50 to take his family to Canada, upon his death his family received the $50 and Elizabeth brought the children to Canada)

I have a copy of the original transcipt of Annie's birth from Somerset House. It states that Fathers Name as: Jesse Gardener, Rank or Profession: Farm Labourer. I don't know if this means anything to you, but is says:

Births in the Sub-District of Tilehurst, in the Counties of Berks & Oxon and their residence as being: Hodmore Uapledurham.

Kim
