Jacob Samuel Gard enlisted May 2, 1864 in Co., D. 152 Regt, Ohio Inf. at or near Greenville, OH. While in the service and in the line of duty at Shenandoah Valley in the State of VA., in June, 1864, he incurred disease or lameness of the right hip joint, the result of hard marching from Martinsburg to Lexington.
He applied for a pension in 1887 and Mary applied for a widow's pension in 1892. Their residence on the application was given as Milo, Grant Co. IN. This is close to Warren, Indiana where they are buried in Mitchel Cemetery, an old cemetery at the edge of town. Jacob and Mary's religious affiliation was United Brethren.
