We've found out a little more about this family. Maybe someone will see a connection.

John VanCleve Garbett was born in Alabama in May of 1837. He moved to Marianna, Jackson County, Florida and married Epanina Whiddon on December 18, 1859. They had several children and Eppie died. In 1872, John married Sarah Eberhart Martin, a widow with several small children. Sarah was from Oglethorpe County, Georgia. Her grandfather, Jacob Eberhart, was a Revolutionary War soldier. Her first husband, John Martin, died in 1870. John and Sarah Garbett had several children, including my ancestor, Bell VanCleve Garbett. The family moved to Oglethorpe County and then Madison County Georgia sometime between 1880 and 1892, when Belle married William Dillard. In the 1900 Oglethorpe County, GA census, John Garbett listed his father as being born in North Carolina and his mother as being a native of Pennsylvania.

Does anyone know the parents of John VanCleve Garbett?
