Hello John:

You are correct in posting that Daniel Lafayette Gant was a son of John Gant and Emma Deal. John Wesley Gant, in turn, was a son of John Gant 1767-1845 who, inturn, was a son of William Gant 1732-1809.

John Wesley Gant first married Mary Elizabeth Deal and they had (son) born 1828; Alan G. born 1829, Pinkney C. 1834-1916, Jane R. 1838, Caleb A. 1839-1907, Sarah A. 1849, Martha 1845, Jesse S. 1846-1911, John Norman 1848-1948 and Wesley Socrates 1852-1937.

John Wesley secondly married Emma Deal (apparently Mary's sister) and they had D.L. born 1855, R. C. 1857 and Henry L. 1858.

Above the above D. L. was Daniel Lafayette Gant. While none of the above was listed as Startup (or version thereof), he might have been the above Jesse S. (Startup?).

In 2001, I communicated with a Bib Fay ( through GANT-L@rootsweb who was Daniel's great grandson but recently I was not able to contact him. He knew a lot about Daniel Lafayette, his travels and his wife, parents, etc. I was not able to identify Daniel for him and only discovered his origins when I noted recent postings by you and others.

If you'd like to hear more about Daniel Lafayette Gant and his siblings, contact me at
