Another possible piece to share with trying to prove whether Tabitha (b. 1763) is a daughter of John Sr. (bc. 1680/90): Magazine of Virginia Genealogy, Volume 28, May 1990, Number 2, pp. 111-2, lists legislative petitions from Virginia counties with significant record losses, Buckingham County, a petition dated 16 November 1789, includes the names of sons of John Jr. (b. 1720): John (III), William, Thomas, Robert, Money, as well as sons-in-law: John Sanders, Reuben Seay. Most importantly, though, on the same list are Mary Gannaway, who I believe is Mary Scott Byrum Gannaway (the second wife of John Sr.), who is listed adjacent to John Morrow, who served as a bondsman at the 1779 marriage of Tabitha to Robert Lorton.
Since: 1) Tabitha is born a reasonable time after the marriage of John Sr. & Mary, 2) John Morrow is active in the Gannaway family affairs from at least 1779 to 1789, 3) it has been reasonably established elsewhere that Tabitha is NOT a daughter of John Jr. since she is neither included in his will nor on the family sampler, and 4) other Gannaways in the area are either not of the proper childbearing age or have a pretty good accounting of their children, I submit that Tabitha should be a daughter of John Sr., and not some other Gannaway.
