Hi Amanda.

BZ's son, Robert Henry Gannaway, my grandfather (14 Jul 1860 - 15 Apr 1950) followed in his father's footsteps and took up photography. As my dad tells it, Robert used to ride up north, get some equipment, build a houseboat and float down the Mississippi River stopping at plantations, etc. taking pictures. He finally decided to open up a studio (or take over for his dad ???). He was having state-of-the-art equipment shipped in (down the river) but it got destroyed on the dock. He had sunk all his savings into the equipment and had to give up on the photograph business. My dad and sister (still living in Monroe La.) recently visited the Fort Smith museum. They told him that probably 50% of the pictures there taken prior to 1900 were taken by BZ. I have heard he photographed Sam and Belle Starr. I have a copy of a picture of BZ and his four sons in my bedroom. Which BZ son was your great-grand dad? My dad told me Burrell had no middle name and made up the 'Z' so he could go by initials as was common at the time. I also remember my dad telling me that his three uncles were all Vanderbilt graduates.

Bill Gannaway, Greenville, Tx
