Dear Nancy,

My gggrandmother Sarah F. Gann is possibly Chickasaw and her burial site to this day is still being sought. I believe that she is buried in NE Mississippi, on a Chickasaw burial ground or reservation. At the time that the Indians were being gathered and put on reservations, it was not popular to be known as a Native American Indian which is why some of them did not register or go onto the rolls. The Cherokees, Choctaws and the Chickasaw are all cousin tribes of the five civilized tribes. It is very frustrating not being able to trace our lineage because of the stigma of being Native born during that time.
