Looking for SPEAKMANs - WW1

Hi,

I am trying to find information on James SPEAKMAN whose Attestation Papers I found on Library & Archives Canada.

He gives his birthdate as 27 Jan. 1872 in Bolton, Lancashire, U. K. His wife was Janet/Janett who was still in Bolton living on Yates St. Bolton in 1916 & 1917.

He enlisted at Brockville in 1916 and was declared medically unfit. He enlisted again in 1917 and this time was accepted in the Re-inforcing Draft, 156 Battalion of the Can. Expeditionary Force. It appears he survived the war.

I have two questions: (1) Stamped across his second attestation paper for Reinforcing Draft is the word, SPECIAL. Can someone tell me what this means?
(2) Is there anyone on this list who is researching SPEAKMAN in Gananoque? If so, I would love to hear from you.

Dorothy
