I can add some information on one of these marriages you listed. I just returned from Stokes Co NC, where I had hoped the John FOREMAN and Margaret GIMBLE was my link. After having seen the GAMMILL/GAMMELL name seems to be Irish, I am not so encouraged, as my Margaret, who m John FOREMAN and moved to Shelby Co IN was definitely German. I also am fairly sure this Stokes Co marriage is connected to the John FOREMAN Sr family of Rowan Co NC. I have heard from descendants of two of the daughters of John FOREMAN Sr. also, and they seem to verify my thoughts on this. I also searched through every cemetery book in Stokes Co library and found no GAMMILLs, leading me to believe they might have lived in what is now Forsyth Co, as Belews Creek flows down into it. This property of James Gammell is on Belew Creeks, which now runs in Forsyth and Stokes in the eastern part of both counties. Someone at the courthouse said they are familiar with the name GAMBLE around there, but not with GAMMELL, so you might consider that when looking for the family. Here is my research. 29 Nov 1793, James Gammell to Wm Dobson, Beloose, (Belews) Creek, adjoining Peter Fulp, Richard Linville and said Gammell. 9 Jan 1794, James Gammell and wife Lucretia sells land to John McDowell on Blues (Belews) Creek, mentions one line is Wm Dobson's land. 29 Aug 1794, James Gammell of Stokes makes out his will, names Lucretia, his wife, children, William, Andrew, James, Betsy, Peggy, Joseph, Samuel, and unborn child. He makes Wm and Andrew and Lucretia his executors. September term, the will was proven. 8 Dec 1875, Wm Gammill, of Blont (Blount) Co, of Western Territory, (TN), exec of James Gammill gives power of attorney to Andrew McKillup, to collect money due him as executor. 6 Feb 1796, Margaret Gammell signs that she has received her portion. (She is probably the Peggy mentioned in his will, Peggy being a common nickname for Margaret) same date, Elizabeth Gammell signs. (she is probably the Betsy) 28 Jan 1796, Andrew signs. 3 Jul 1805, John Foreman m Margarette Gimbel, Frederick Rothrock is bond, witness, G. Shober I have this information from another researcher: FRIEDRICK ROTHROCK (FRIEDRICH?) b. 17 Apr 1772 at Yorktown, York Co., PA m. 14 Jan 1794 at Forsyth Co., NC d. 05 Jan 1852 at IN Married: CATHERINE FUHRMAN b. at d. a1850 at FRIEDRICK (and CATHERINE?) are buried at the Sandhill Cemetery, near Columbus, Bartholomew County, Indiana He says her father is John Foreman. Note that Frederich was bond for John Foreman marriage. I found this in Rowan Wills abstract book. will of John Foreman 22 Jul 1807, prob. 1807, daughters, Hannah Tash, Polly Fishel, Catherine Rothrock, Margaret Jones, and Barbara Foreman, son John Foreman, he is exec. This property of James Gammell is on Belew Creeks, which now runs in Forsyth and Stokes in the eastern part of either. Notify Administrator about this message?
