James A. Gammill SC>AL?>MS
I am looking for information on James A. Gammill, b. ca 1820 in SC.
In 1842, James A. Gammill married Martha Ann Jetton in Noxubee Co., MS. Martha Ann (maiden name unknown) was the widow of John Jetton. She and John had moved from Pickens Co., Al to Noxubee. After his death, she remarried James Gammill, and he became guardian of her son, Isaac Jetton.
Many of the people involved with James Gammill in Noxubee, MS came from Pickens and Greene Cos., AL, so James may have also migrated to Noxubee (just over the state line) from there.
In the 1850 census, James and Martha are living in Hancock Co., MS. In his household are also Jane Gammel, 60, b. SC, Mary Gammel, 8/12, b. Miss, and Issac Jetham (James stepson), 11, b. Ala.
I would greatly appreciate any information on James A. Gammill.
