Thomas is my great great grandfather on my mother's side.
I have found no basic for Thomas not being the son of John and Elizabeth . Census proves he is.
I have found no basic for the indian reference or being a Durham.I have the images of the census pages of the following.I will be glad to send those if you want them.
Thomas Gambrel, Corporal, enrolled on July 18, 1863 at Harlan Co. as a Private in Company F, 49th Reg. Kentucky Volunteers.Honorably discharged December 26, 1864 at Lexington, Kentucky

John Gambrel (b1871NC) married Elizabeth Miller April 18, 1942, Knox Co.Thomas was born 11 months later, March 14, 1842, Martha followed March 12, 1845.

Elizabeth Gambrel widow age 55. Thomas age 16 KY, Martha age 15 KY.
1867 after the Civil War, the weastern part of Harlan Co was taken off to become the eastern half of Bell Co. They did not move, the county line did.
