Hello Lanny: Who was your father? But given the birthdate and place it was either Henry or Fred...Your GF was Jasper Rogers Galyon and your father was his son by his 2nd wife, Ida May Booth, whom he married on 12/22/1898 in Knoxville. Jasper Rogers was born in Grainger Co., TN in 1844 to Wesley Hamilton and Mary Greenlee Galyon. Jasper served as Pvt. in Co. A of the 4th TN Inf. (USA). After the war jasper became a carpenter in Knoxville until about 1898 when he moved to Sweetwater. Jasper moved to Bristol, TN around 1900 where he helped build the courthouse there. His name is on a dedication plaque.

Jasper was married twice. His first wife was Elizabeth "Linnie" Austin whom he married on 11-9-1869 in Hawkins Co., TN. His children by Linnie are a bit of a mystery to me as he never showed in any census. He divorced Linnie and married Ida May ca. 1898.

Jasper's grandparents were James and Abi Smith Galyon of Grainger Co. James was born in the 1790s in NC to a John Gallion and his unknown first wife. John in turn was born ca. 1770s to Jacob A. and Elizabeth Arnold Gallion who were probably living in Surry or Wilkes Co., NC at the time. Jacob and Eliz. were married ca. 1753 in Harford Co., MD where Jacob was born ca. 1733 to a Thomas and Mary Young Gallion. Thomas and Mary were married ca. 1731 in Harford Co. where Thomas was born ca. 1707 to a John and Mary Wright? Gallion. This "John" was born ca. 1670 most probably (we have no source documentation but there was only one known adult Gallion in Md. at the time) to the "original immigrant" to America, Joseph Gallion. Joseph came to Maryland in 1664 from London, England where he was born ca. 1633 to Wm. and Joan Palmer Gallion of London. Wm. and Joan were married ca.1615 in Chigwell, Essex which is to the NW of London. Wm. was born in London in 1592 (Shakespeare was alive) to unknown parents. The Gallion name goes back in sporadic London records to the 1340s and in scattered English records to 1160. The name is considered in England to be of French origin with the French spelling being Gallienne. There have been Galliennes in the Channel islands since the 1300s and there are today about a thousand Gallienne families in France, mostly in the NW and the Ile de France.

I hope this has been of interest. I have no photograph of Jasper and if you have one I would love to obtain a copy. Also, if you know who his children were by his first marriage I would love to know. I have been in contact with others who have descended from Jasper including someone in Fla. and someone in the Detroit region.
