Well you have solved a little mystery for us Galyon researchers. I never knew who Thomas M. Galyon's 1st wife was. How did you come by that name? Thomas M. was son to Abraham and Sarah Watts also of Roane Co. Abraham was prob. born in Grainger Co., TN to John and Rhoda Mitchell Galyon. John was actually a John Jr. as he was son to John (sr.) and his unknown 1st wife. John sr. was born ca. 1770 in Surry Co., NC to Jacob A. and Elizabeth Arnold Gallion who themselves were married ca. 1753 in Harford Co., MD. Jacob was born ca. 1733 to Thomas and Mary Young Gallion who themselves were married ca. 1731 in Harford Co., MD. Thomas was born in 1707 to John and Mary (poss. nee Wright) Gallion also of Harford Co. John is thought to be the son of Joseph Gallion the original "immigrant" to America. Joseph came to Maryland in 1664 from London, England where was born in 1633 to William and Joan Palmer Gallion. Joan and William were md. ca. 1615 in Chigwell, Essex. However, I believe that William was born in London in 1592. The name in various forms goes back in England to 1160. It is not clear what the lineage connections are back beyond 1592.
I hope this has been helpful.
What do you know about Thomas M. and Nancy E. Baldwin? It appears that this marriage didn't last long as Thomas M. is in his father's 1880 household sans any Nancy. He remarries 5 years later to a Mary Rayburn. Does this sound correct?
George T. Galyon
