George, Thanks again. I'm about ready to print and frame the chart for my Dad's 70th birthday.I can tell you without your help it would not have been possible.Since our first exchange I've looked into my GGM Mary's "Rayburn" or "Hunter" lineage.I can find nothing to support the Hunter line.Perhaps my GM (Debbie) had forgotten -- she relayed the Hunter name in 1980 at age 87.As for RAYBURN, I found a Mary E. born "ca 1855" to "Joseph b. ca 1833/4 in Roane Co. d. > 1860 m. 10 Sep 1853 Roane Co., TN Caroline Blackbourn b. ca 1838 Roane Co, TN." Also, Children Sarah M. (b.ca 56) and Joseph P. (b. ca 59). GGM Mary's tombstone at Lawnville states a birth year of 1858, and a 1923 Roane Death Certificate (#284) for a Mary Galyon shows age 66. If anything, Hunter seems to be the married name prior to marrying Thomas M. though I now think the Hunter connection a red herring. We wouldn't have known without your input - thanks. Incidentally, I discovered the famous Texas Representative and Speaker of the House Sam Rayburn was born in Roane Co in the Bradbury Community 6 Jan 1882.Now to the GALYON'S. I agree with your assessment of my GGGD Abe being the Abe living w/ the McDuffee's. It matches well with knowing his age of 30 on 4 Jan 1863 at enlistment in 2nd TN Inf meaning he married Sarah Watts in 1852 at a ripe 20 years. Any idea why Abe, Calvin, and Franklin lived W/ McDuffees?I'm a bit limited in what I can do research wise since, at this time, my sole source of data derives from internet sites or the hard work of others like you. It appears "Uncles Abraham and Issac" did very well for themselves based on Roane Tax Records for 1857 and 59. I found one Galyon (James P.)owning a slave (valued at $750 in 57 and $1,000 in 59). QUESTIONS: Could we clarify did John Jr marry Rhoda Fleming or Rhoda Mitchell in Grainger Co in 1818, and do we know the date? Would you also repeat the assumed death dates of J. Sr and Jr?Do you know the death dates of Abe and Sarah? Do you know the names of John Jr's children other than Abraham? TIDBITS: From what I know, sometime in the early or mid 1930's John William and Debbie lost the farm in Roane and moved to Kingsport to find work. That's the catalyst of how I got here. I understand the bank foreclosed, as happened to so many farmers during the depression. I also understand my GM's brother Gilbert (Gibb) Caldwell in turn bought the farm from the bank -- I don't know if there were any death threats afterward or claims of K-9 ancestry though my GD maintained a colorful vocabulary all the way to his death in Aug 1963. Finally, Thomas M. and Mary E.; John William and Debbie; Gilbert and Rose; and Henry Houston (WWI vet) and Maud are all buried at Lawnville Cemetery on Lawnville Rd in Roane Co.
George thanks for the information.Anxiously awaiting your reply....Mike G.
