My paternal grandmother was Honora (known as Nora)Agnes Galvin. She was born Sept. 25, 1873 in Listowel, Co. Kerry; her birth certificate indicates "Rathea/Lixnaw," both of which are near the larger town of Listowel. Father James Galvin; mother: Julia or Delia (Stack) Galvin (not sure which sister was her mother). Nora emigrated to Washington, D.C. in the 1890s, married Michael Gallagher (a fireman) on July 15, 1903; my father, James Joseph Gallagher was born May 3, 1904; d. June 29, 1988. A second child of Michael and Nora was (my aunt) Kathrine Rose (Gallagher) Whelan, b. July, 1909; d. Feb. 1971. Any information about the Galvins or Stacks in Listowel would be most welcome. I have a school notebook Nora kept, with maps of Ireland drawn in colored pencil, and notes for her grammar school classes, presumably from the late 1870s or early 1880s. She was one of 12 children.
