The 1857 land sale document appears to be the occasion at which Jacob and Betsey Galusha became Jacob and Betsey Galutia.

Jacob Galusha was born at Berlin, no state given.Jackie notes that there is a Berlin in NY, MA and CT; Berlin, MA is on the other side of the state, but Berlin, NY is just over the border from the Williamstown area.Registrar notes that Jacob came to Williamstown in 1815.
Maiden name of Betsey given in this record--Betsey Manchester.

From HOUSTON VALLEY SIGNAL, Sep 24, 1885 [Houston Co, MN]
Died--At the residence of his daughter, Mrs. C. Smith [Sophia, wife of Charles Smith], in the town of Houston, MN, Wednesday, September 16, 1885, Mr. Jacob Galutia, aged 92 years and 6 months.Mr. Galutia came to this county from New York, twenty-eight years ago, and has been a resident of the town of Houston since that time.He was honored by all as a good, straightforward citizen always is.He was the father of a large family, of which Mrs. C. Smith was the oldest.He was grandfather of Messrs. Herbert Smith, William and Frank Quenett.His remains were interred in the cemetery, near the red school house, west of the village, last Friday.

Henrietta Galutia Shipman Dibble was my ggg grandmother ( the birth record is the only place her name is given as Hannah Etta). Do you have any Galutia photos? Jacob's parents were Jacob Galusha (a Rev. War vet) and Dinah Matteson/Madison.I'll post an abstract of Jacob's pension file in a separate message.I posted it at Rootsweb a couple of years ago but now it's gone.Also have the Civil War widow's pension file for Clarinda Galutia Quenett Hogerty which I will abstract and post.
