Gallion Family Genealogy Forum

Hello Mary Jane. Your Eliza is new to me and, for that matter, to all Gallion researchers that I know of. She is undoubtedly a daughter (the fourth known) of Joshua Gallion Sr. and his unknown wife. Abner, Young, Laban, Joshua Jr., and Samuel are all sons (Saml. might possibly be a GSON but I don't think so) to Joshua Sr. Joshua Sr. was born ca. 1775 in Surry/Wilkes Co., NC to Jacob and Eliz. Arnold Gallion. Jacob and Eliz. were married ca. 1753 in Harford Co., MD (then known as St. George's Parish of Baltimore Co., MD). Jacob was born ca. 1733 to Thomas and Mary Young (hence the name Young) Gallion who themselves were married in Harford Co. ca. 1731. Thomas was born ca. 1707 in Harford Co. to a John and Mary Wright ? Gallion. John was born ca. 1670 to Joseph Gallion who was the original Gallion immigrant to America. Joseph came to Maryland in 1664 settling in the Bush River section and becoming a tobacco planter. Joseph was born in London, England ca. 1633 to William and Joan Palmer Gallion who themselves were married in Chigwell, Essex, ca. 1615. And there the trail ends for now. The name Gallion in England is considered to be of French origin with the French spelling being Gallienne. You can find sporadic English records with the name Galion going back as far as 1160..but we have no way of knowing how they were connected. George T. Galyon RedVdub1@aol.com
