No, I don't descend from Gilbert GALLION. I've been tracking down documentation for the family in early Baltimore Co. I came across Gilbert's Revolutionary War record on a search for GALLION/GALYON at footnote.com and was fascinated with it. But I couldn't place Gilbert with a birth family - couldn't find anything on him, really, using a Google search. So, being nosy, I asked.
Our line is from John/?Mary > Thomas/Mary YOUNG > Jacob A/Elizabeth ARNOLD > John/UNK > Mary/Benjamin HENSLEY > HENSLEY/GILES - the Roane Co, TN GALYONs.
As you know, my bunch migrated out of Maryland in the late 1760s or early 1770s during Marylanders' great rush out of the state to the south and west as the war winds started blowing. It appears that [all?] my other Maryland lines did the same.
George, I believe - hope - that I have thanked you before for sharing your immense store of GALLION/GALYON information with all of us. You pointed me in the right direction a couple of years ago, and your replies to others help me stay on track. Until very recently, my GALYONs were getting short shrift from me. I had personally done little primary research/documentation of them. Happily, Baltimore Co records for the period are pretty good; besides land and tax records, they show up in protesting the move of the Balto Co seat out of Joppa to Baltimore (not long before Harford Co was formed out of Balto Co). The family's general literacy and decent economic status makes them easier to track than many of my other lines.
