Gallion Family Genealogy Forum

Hello Cheri..Your Elizabeth was married (1848) before she could have been individually denoted in a Galyon household census. However, Muncie is in Delaware Co., Ind. and Galyon's have been in Delaware Co. since about 1830 in the person of Daniel Gallion and his wife Nancy Stanley. Daniel dies before 1850 (prob. before 1840) and his wife Nancy remarried a James McKinney and is evident in the 1850 Indiana census for Delaware Co, Monroe Twp. According to the Brewer Family History said Daniel Gallion (Galyon, etc.) was son to Thomas and Margaret Williams Galyon who were married in Surry Co., TN ca. 1790 or so. Daniel married Nancy Stanley ca. 1823 in Wayne Co., Indiana. Said Thomas Gallion from Surry is a tough one. According to the Brewer Family History this Thomas was a Rev. war vet which means to me that he was in Harford Co., Md. ca. 1776 and is in that famous 1776 Harford Co., Md. census which listed all the individual family members for each household. There are only two other possibilities neither of which hangs together with the Revolutionary War Veteran status.
This Thomas from 1776 Harford Co. would have been a son to James and Ruth Gilbert Gallion of Harford Co. Who is this James Gallion? We have to make an informed guess. Fortunately, there are very few Gallions in Harford Co. (or anywhere else for that matter) and you can make very good guesses. I think it almost certain that James was son to a John and Elizabeth Evans Gallion and a Grandson to John and Mary Wright? Gallion and Great Grandson to the original Gallion immigrant to America..Joseph Gallion.
Joseph came to America in 1664 from London, England where he was born in 1633 to a William and Joanne Palmer Gallion. Joseph was christened in St. Olave's Church, Hart Street which is still standing. It is 2-3 blocks to the North and slightly west of the Tower. I have visited it. William was born in London ca. 1592 to unknown parents. Gallions have been in London since at least 1330 and in England since at least 1167. It is considered to be a French name with the French spelling being Gallienne.
I hope this helps.
