Jane Gallion was born in England prob. around 1600. She first married a Pierce and was apparently widowed at a fairly young age. Gov. Thomas Mayhew of Mass. was also widowed sometime around 1630 or so. He travelled back to London, England from his home in Martha's Vineyard. In London Gov. Mayhew married Jane Gallion Pierce and they returned to Martha's Vineyard where they lived out the est of their lives. It is not know who Jane's parents were. Due to the relatively small number of Gallions around in those days I would not be surprised if she was closely related (cousin and/or sister) to the William Gallion who married Joan Palmer in Chigwell, Essex ca. 1615. William and Joan then moved to London and lived somewhere in the vicinity of St. Olave's Church on Hart St. William and Joan's youngest son, Joseph, was born ca. 1633 and it is this Joseph who emigrated to America in 1664 to become a Maryland tobacco planter. It is from Joseph that just about all American Gallions, Galyons, Galyens, Galyeans, etc. descend. Including me.
