Hello James..Thomas (Sexton) Gallion is a bit of an enigma. I think his father was a Sexton and his mother was a Gallion. This Thomas Sexton came to KY sometime shortly after the WO1812 and always used the name Gallion in KY. He even legally changed his name to Thomas Gallion in 1845. In the 1850 census Thomas is living in Carter Co., Dist. 2 and right next door to him is a Jonathan Gallion and family (aged 27 which means that Jonathan was born in 1823). I presume that Jonathan is Thomas' son.

I never heard the story that a Jonathan Gallion came to Floyd Co. in 1818 from Grayson Co. In the 1850 census the 27 year old Jonathan lists his bp as KY. That doesn't mean too much but it is something.

There is no Jonathan Gallion in any 1820-40 KY census. Our Thomas first shows up in the 1830 Laurence Co., KY census.

The story of the family is that said Thomas Sexton got into a fatal argument with a neighbor about some beehives..And to escape the wrath of justice and the dead man's relatives said Thomas Sexton emigrated. That might explain why he was so adamant about changing his name. Strangely enough, he was surrounded by Sexton relatives in the 1850 census.
