Pietro Carlo Gallinatti from San Giorgio Canavese
My great grandfather Pietro Carlo Gallinatti came to America in 1887, according to the 1920 U.S. census. He was born in San Giorgio Canavese in 1871. I have a birth certificate- his parents were Costanso Gallinatti and Teresa Dorma. An old family friend claims that the family was from Cortereggio. In 1895 he is listed in a city directory in Houghton County, Michigan as a trammer living at 325 Hecla. In 1901, in Calumet, Michigan, he married Lucia Cerutti, also from San Giorgio Canavese, who arrived in the USA in 1899. The family story is that she was a dime-a-dance girl when Pietro met her. They had ten children in Calumet, Michigan and Fort William, Ontario and finally landed in southwest Michigan and in Elkhart, Indiana, by way of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Windsor, Ontario, and Sparta, Michigan. Does anyone recognize these folks? It appears that most Gallinatti's in the U.P of Michigan came from Aglie, but I do see the name in other parts of Piemonte.
