James: My husband is from Las Vegas, New Mexico. We were back there last month and visited the graves of his grandparents in Mt. Calvary Cemetary. Regarding your question about the term "ladino." I'm not familiar with that one, but the terms "marrano" and "converso" both were used to refer to Spanish and Portuguese Jews who converted to Catholicism. If you will do a keyword search on "crypto-Jews" you will find a lot of sites dedicated to this subject. One writer mentioned that it is unlikely that our Gallegos forebears were conversos because there were very few Jews in Galicia. Beverly
