Obituary: Marie [Gallegos] Lujan
Marie M. Lujan Feb. 22, 1910-Nov. 9, 2005 95 years of age, passed away in Walnut Creek on November 9th, 2005. Born Marie Gallegos in Gallegos, New Mexico she was the descendant of pioneer New Mexico families. Her father was instrumental in fashioning the process for New Mexico statehood in the early 20th century. Her parents were Eufratas and Delphine Gallegos. Marie was educated at Our Lady of Loretto Academy and graduated from college at the age of 20 and started a teaching career. She was married for 63 years to Tobias Lujan who preceded her in death in 1996. She is survived by 12 children Tobias (Joan), Anthony, Alice Prior (Carl dec.), Evelyn Giacomini (Donald), Frances Moe (William), Theresa Griffis (Harley dec.), Albert, Joan Rammig, Joseph (Sonja), James (Sheri), William (Patti), Thomas (Jackie), Two children, Manual and Henry, preceded her in death. She was a grandmother to 40 children, a great grandmother to 47 children and a great great grandmother to 6. Marie was a loving mother, teacher, chef and above all a devoted wife for 63 years to Toby. She enjoyed shopping at hospice in Walnut Creek, cooking for her children and grandchildren and was always a spirited matriarch of the family. She volunteered her time at Santa Maria church in Orinda and was a devout Catholic. She was loved and will be missed by all. A Vigil and Rosary will be held at Hull's Walnut Creek Chapel, (925) 934-5400 located at 1139 Saranap Ave., Walnut Creek Ca. at 7 pm on Tuesday, November 15, 2005. The vigil will begin at 5pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Santa Maria Catholic Church (925) 254-2426 at 40 Santa Maria Way in Orinda at 11 am on Wednesday, November 16, 2005. Internment will be at a later date in Lake County California. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marie's name to the Jesuit Seminary Association at P. O. Box 519, Los Gatos, Ca. 95031-0519 or St Jude's shrine at 512 W. Saratoga Street, Baltimore, MD 21201.
