GALLAHER-GOLLAHER-GOLLIHER from mid 1700

I believe these surname spellings all come from the same family. Mine is Caleb O'Gallaher, born ca 1739 in Ballyshannon and emigrated to America abt 1750. Married a Martha JONES in Welmington, New Castle, DE in 1757. His father was John O'Gallaher and mother Margaret, with siblings JAMES, HUGH, WILLIAM, ANNA, BRIDGETT, JOHN, THOMAS, PATRICK.

Caleb evidently changed the spelling of the surname to GOLLAHER, perhaps in an effort to get Americans to pronounce it correctly.

I would invite all who attend to this forum to visit the CLANN O'GALLCHOBHAIR web site and register, the URL being:

I would also encourage you to join our Mail List by visiting:
see http://www.eaGroups.com/list/cousins-gollaher/
or just e-mail me and I'll add you.

The mail list is:
"... For GOLLEHERs, GOLLAHERs, GOLLIHERs, GALLAHERs, GALLIHERs and others whose common ancestor is most likely CALEB GOLLAHER (O'GALLAHER) who emigrated as a young man from Ballyshannon, a likely casualty of the Penal Laws and Cromwellian deprivations of the mid 1700s. Hope to hear from you!
