Sorry, but I can't help you at the moment.

I have two Mary GALES born in Tanfield, County Durham in 1860, one of whom was Mary Elizabeth GALES. This is as close as I can get to your Mary E. GALES.

I assume you are aware that GALES shows up as a German as well as an English surname.
