Galantes from Italy and Camden, NJ, USA

Hi all,

I'm doing a genealogy of the Galante family. However, I am not sure where in Italy they are from. The family in America was begun by Pietro Galante (b. 1885(?) d. 19??) when he emigrated from Italy to the United States in 1907. He was settled in Camden, NJ, USA by 1930, according to the 1930 U.S. Census. I believe that he had settled in Camden from the beginning of his time in America, since all his children were born in NJ.

Based on the reports of my family, he may have been from Abruzzo (Teramo), Calabria, or Sicily - but as these are very different regions I am not sure.

Does anyone have some information for me, or general tips on how to find out where he was from in Italy - where to find ships' manifests, etc. - please respond.

Thank you.
