As someone who is interested in possible converso roots of his own paternal family, I have searched some of the names in my father's village Colmenar de Montemayor. One of those, in fact the paternal surname of my uncle Pedro, is Galan.

I have found that according to http://www.ifmj.org/esp_ref.html the name Galant with a t, that is, would have been registered as a Sephardic name. It obviously seems connected to the surname Galante, see: http://genforum.genealogy.com/cgi-bin/pageload.cgi?sephardic::galante::25.html

What is very interesting is that the Golan story seems to accord well with these data.
