Nanette - I think you are onto something when you mention that name Perry in Shelby Co., TN. This is just a hunch. Perhaps Marlin Gaither was a son of Alfred Basil Gaither, born 1849. He lived in Shelby Co., and had sons Joseph, born Feb., 1888 and Alfred Basil, borm Feb., 1891. This seems to be an incomplete list. Like you said, the name Perry is mentioned. Alfred Basil married 1st, Ella Graves, and 2nd Calsie Stevenson. I show a child (unnamed) by the 1st wife. Alfred Basil Gaither was a clerk in the post office at Memphis, TN. This information comes from the unpublished papers of Dr. Philip Fletcher Laugenour of Statesville, NC
