Since James REID was married in Rowan Co., NC in 1782, that would mean he would have had to have returned to MD to have a child born there in 1788. Possible. It is also possible that he is one of at least two or three men named James REID in Rowan County in the late 1700s and early 1800s, some of which are in the general neighborhood of the GAITHER family. I haven't seen any records that list a wife Cassandra, but in most of the deeds, no wife is listed. If he remained in Rowan County and is one of the James REIDs there, it is also possible Cassandra died young and he remarried.
