Screwed up is how I feel but it's not because of intermarriage! (I hope!) I'm lost among the Wellses of Maryland-- I'm beginning to think hopelessly lost. My husband is descended from James Wells b. 1745 Frederick or Baltimore Co., MD who m. Jennet and moved to Bracken Co, KY where he died. His will lists his wife and sons and makes reference to slaves that he held. According to one genealogy he was the son of Joseph Wells and Margaret Gaither and the genealogy further mentions that Jennet (recorded as Jennel in one genealogy) may well have been a Gaither also.

Since my last posting, I have information that James may be the son of Thomas Wells and Elizabeth Howard. This family was fairly devoutly Quaker, however, so James being a slaveholder does not add up for this family. So now I'm thoroughly confused!

I thought maybe the best way to solve the Wells mystery was to jump into the Wells Gaither tangle and sort it out from there. Can you help me?
