Fredric; I am sorry you feel that you was treated rudely by JGD. I have contacted you to try to make amends, but you continue to tell people how badly you have been treated.

The fact is that all of us must go by records in England or records that have been lost that once were in England. Back in the late 1800's when George Riggs Gaither of Maryland spent many years researching the Gaither family and made numerous trips to England, he found records that no longer exist. We must not forget that was before the days of copy machines and duplicate records. He was an Honorable man who once ran for Govenor of Maryland and had a reputation of being an honest man. I cannot dispute what he claims he found.

One member of JGD revisited some of the places G.R.Gaither visited and found that pages had been torn from the books he was said to have copied and for the dates of the records he said he found. The rector helped him and his wife search the records and they concluded that the pages were missing.

Unlike today, when a marriage or baptism was recorded, there was only one record - not several as we have grown accustomed to.

George Riggs Gaither was the ONLY Gaither who did extensive early research in England. He did the very earliest research in America, and he was the only person of Gaither descent to do it. Harry Wright Newman and Prof. J. D. Warfield were neither Gaithers or Gaither descendants.

I have complete copies of G.R.Gaithers papers and feel he is the most correct in his interpretation of events and line of descent. We must all draw our own conclusions. No one person can tell everyone what is or is not absolutely correct. That was a long time ago and many records do not exist for us in the Gaither family any more that they do to draw, without a doubt, who shot JFK.

As for the Gaither history in America, I have, by far the most complete history with nearly 45 years of research. I was able to talk or correspond with people, long dead, who gave me information or sent me pictures; old Bibles, etc. In most cases, I was the one who put all of the Gaither lines together as we know them today throughout the U.S.

You and I do agree on many points and we must not forget that people out there are looking for answers and don't need to hear all of the negative stuff you spread around. Give them the records you are referring to and let them look abnd make determinations for themselves - but don't forget that George Riggs Gaither claims he DID find those records you say are wrong.
EVA GAITHER THORNBERRY
