Thanks for replying. As I am just getting started w/my research and info. is limited, due to the fact that most of the elders w/the info. have passed. However, for clarification, I contacted my aunt, Katherine Harris (b. 1936 in Pawley's Island, S.C.), who clarified some info. for me.
First, I should start w/my grandfather on my mother's side -- Henry Gainey (now living in OH) -- I don't know what yr. he was born, however I presume sometime around 1910 -- his mother (my greatgrandmother -- was Elizabeth); I don't know who his father was (my great (maternal) grandfather).
Henry had (as we know of) three children: Anna Gainey, Cy(rus?) Gainey and my mother, Sue Alice Gainey. I know my mother and Aunt Katherine grew up on a farm in Pawley's Island, S.C., since they often spoke of farming the land.
That's all I know of the Gainey's. I thought my greatgrandmother's name was Sarah Gainey, however, I found out yesterday, that it was Elizabeth Gainey.
The Sarah that was spoken of most often, in reference to her age (died @ 103), was 'Sarah Dines Duncan', the wife of my paternal great grandfather 'Capus Duncan' (rumored to be an orphan and raised by indians).
I also checked death records and found the info. below:
1. Elizabeth Gainey - b. 10/18/04 - d. 11/74 in Florence, S.C. (which may be my greatgrandmother (maternal); which verifies the info. my aunt gave me yesterday, re relatives possibly in Florence, S.C.
2. Elizabeth Gainey - b. 12/2/1876 - d. 5/69 in Darlington, S.C. (this may be a relative of yours -- my aunt did not mention anyone in Darlington, S.C. and I have no idea how far Pawley's Island, Darlington and Florence are to each other.
I know this doesn't give you any info. on Sarah (Sallie) Gainey -- and I apologize for the misinformation.
