Randolph/Barbour County -> Gilmer County

Does anyone know why George Gainer (b circa 1765) and most of his family picked up and moved to Gilmer County? As far as I can tell it happened around 1843 (it was part of Lewis County until 1845) and George died at about 80 years old in 1845. Just seems strange to me. He was still in Randolph in 1830 according to the census. He's definitely buried in Gilmer. I thought maybe Gilmer County was once part of Randolph County, but that is not the case.

I'm judging by the marriages of his children. One was married in 1846 in Gilmer, and one was married in 1843 in Barbour. I'm assuming they all moved together. It just seems strange to me that almost the entire branch decided to up and move. Maybe they just needed more room to spread out.
