My grandfater (William) Willie L. Gainer was the half brother to John Gainer in Kerens. They lived about a mile apart on Lazy Run in Kerens, Randolph County, WV. I met your grandfather on more than one occassion when I was young.

I have alot of the Gainer ancestory. Your John was the son of Randolph Gainer and Henrietta Hill. My Willie was the son of Randolph Gainer and Hariett Digman. Randolph was the son of Montraville (and yes it is Montraville not Monterville). Montraville was the son of Bryan K. Gainer, Jr who was the son of Bryan K Gainer who was the son of Brian Gainer who was the son of Cornelius Gainer. Cornelius immigrated to western Maryland around 1725 from Ireland. The county in Ireland is uncertain. Longford and/or Louth counties seem a good bet.

The Gainer geneology is summarized in an on-line document prepared by Dr. Patrick Gainer and posted by Don Norman. I knew Dr. Gainer when I was in college at WVU in the early 70's. I remember him showing this information to me then, but i was too young to appreciate it.

I am very appreciative to Don Norman for posting the information because I thought it had become lost after Dr. Gainer passed away. Anyway, I hope all this helps.
