Just found a Bryan Gainer & Polly Smith in WFT 53 family 2259.
Not much but may help.
Bryan Gainer m. Polly Smith, d. Roane Co., WV.Children given:
..Mary E. Gainer
..Brian W. Gainer
..Loretta Gainer
Polly's siblings: John, Hiram, George, Betty, Martha Jane, Alpheus (Barbour), Huldah (b. August 1830, m. Daniel M. Phillips, his father also to Roane), Rebecca Ann.
No other dates except those estimates by FTM.But I do know more from material on Polly Smith.Polly is given as daughter of Henry Smith, d. c. 1890, Roane Co., WV and Catherine Lesher.Henry & Catherine were married May 3, 1814, Randolph Co., VA in this source.Catherine is given here as dau. of Jacob Lesher & Annie Mary.
This source give children for Jacob & Annie Mary as: George, Henry, Margaret, Mary or Mary Sophia, Charolotte, Susannah, Elizabeth & Catherine.I have somewhat different sellings.
---------Now my other info.
Our family tradition has Annie Mary as either Ann Mary or Mary Ann and related to Georg Kaufmann (George Coffman in Randolph) from Frederick, MD.I believe the Lesher family is in the biographical gazetter of Hu Maxwell's History of Barbour County (1890s) with Mary Ann given as a Coffman.Jacob & Mary Ann were probably married before coming to Randolph Co.
Jacob Lesher's will is record in either Barbour or Randolph county, I believe the former.I do not believe that contained the name George (i.e., we did not know of George).
I found Mary Ann living with a household adjacent to households of two of her daughters in 1850 Census of Taylor Co.We have long wondered who that family was.Since we did not know of George, I suspect she was living with another of her daughters. The Lesher family disappeared from Barbour county before 1860.I found a household I believed to be that of Henry Lesher in a county on east side of Ohio River in WV, perhaps it was Roane???Will be looking for George. One daughter married a Beaver, two married McCartneys, one married a Nose, all but the Beaver in Taylor Co.
Some of this Smith family remained in Barbour.A few of spouses names given in this paper appear to be Barbour names. One of the Smiths was a once locally well known portrait artist if I'm not confusing the Smiths.Smith's drugstore may have been owned by one.I have other notes that I'll try to find.
I want to know more about this family, i.e., from Jacob & Mary Ann downward. Many relatives of George & his wife Magdalena/Madelena came to Cove District, and several loose ends not yet proven.Info on Mary Ann may help resolve Magdalena's connections as well as George's.
Sorry this is so late!I think I have some other material on this family, below Henry Smith, but haven't been able "to get my boat assembled."
Nick
Best wishes and good hunting.
