I'm surfing today so this will be brief.Although Cornelius was in Randolph county prior to 1850, and may have stayed long enough to briefly occupy the new county of Barbour formed in 1843, Cornelius moved on with many of George Gainer's family to the Gilmer county area in the early 1840s.George died soon after the move, but cornelius was there for the 1850 census and I believe some of his descendants remained there for sometime.I believe Cornelius was married in Randolph.Do you know if Anna
Marsh was connected to the early Marsh family that was briefly in Tucker county (part of Randolph for a while) and which moved to Barbour county and helped established a shorted-lived iron furnace with Felix Ryan in the Brushy Fork valley?
The Gainers that remained in Randolph county after formation of Barbour & Tucker were from the George Washington Gainer line and are also descendants of the earlier George Gainer that went to Gilmer -- at least that's the best match I can make of the children of brothers George & Bryan Gainer (there were several Georges and several Bryans so this can become confusing).
Good luck in your search, it will take you to Alleghany Co., MD and to Faquier Co., VA.
From there let me know if you can trace them!!
