The Gahegan family of Ireland, Mauritius, Guernsey and Burnley, Lancashire

I am interested in finding descendants of Philip Gahegan, born around 1809 in Ireland, who died in Burnley, Lancs in 4Q1884.

His 1881 entry shows him to have been an army pensioner, and the birthplaces of his various children show that he appears to have travelled the world as a British soldier, being in Port Louis, the capital of Mauritius, in 1846/7, when his son Philip was born, and to have later been in Guernsey, where a possible son Charles, and his son Philip's wife Jane were both born, both in about the 1840s-50s. The family may have stayed on Guernsey until Philip jnr married Jane. Philip snr was probably a garrison soldier on both occasions. By 1856, when his daughter Emma was born, Philip snr was living in Burnley, Lancs

He eventually retired to Habergham Eaves, which lies between Burnley, Accrington and Padiham, Lancs. His son Philip became a stockbroker, apparently in Burnley, and had several children in the area, from one of whom my brother-in-law descends.

Does anyone recognise this family as related to their own? I would be most interested in hearing from you if this is so.

Best Wishes
Martin Noakes
